The TJC Partnership with Chapel Hill ISD

The Tyler Junior College (TJC) Promise Program is a six-year, comprehensive program that spans from 9th grade through the first two years of college. The Promise encourages students within the TJC tax district to perform well academically in high school and college, while limiting the number of missed school days and promoting community service. 

What are the Requirements?

Academic Achievements

Grades:Complete each year in high school with a cumulative GPA equal to or greater than a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or an 80 on a 100-point scale.

Students must graduate high school college-ready as defined by the state of Texas.

Persistence Absences (Unexcused)

  • Five days or fewer during the second semester of freshman year.

  • Ten days or fewer during each year, sophomore through senior.

  • No more than one disciplinary action that results in a disciplinary alternative education program as defined by the Texas Education Code.

Community Service

  • Five service hours or more of volunteering hours during the sophomore year.

  • Ten service hours or more of volunteering during junior and senior year

How does it work?

  • Return a signed Promise pledge form to your high school counselor. Deadline is December 1st of your freshman year in high school.

  • Earn a minimum grade-point average in all high school work, keep an excellent attendance record, and help others by completing community service hours each year. View below for additional TJC Promise Requirements or click here to download the PDF copy.


     

  • Graduate from high school knowing tuition and fees will be covered for two years.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Students who fulfill the Promise requirements receive support and encouragement to obtain a college degree or certificate from TJC. The TJC Promise Program covers tuition and fees for up to two years through a combination of federal grants, TJC Scholarships, and the TJC Promise. 


     

  • If a student attends at least two full years at a high school within the TJC tax district and meets the requirements, the TJC Promise Program will cover tuition and fees for up to two years through a combination of federal grants, TJC Scholarships, and the TJC Promise.

  • The Promise program starts during the second semester of a student’s freshman year in high school. The student will sign a pledge and promise to meet established requirements based on academic achievement, persistence and community service. The TJC Promise program works to create an environment that will promote and encourage a college-going culture among families and high schools.

  • A student must enroll at TJC and begin using the TJC Promise the fall semester immediately following his/her high school graduation.

  • Scholarship funds will be applied to the student’s TJC account prior to the start of the student’s first semester of traditional enrollment at TJC.
