Freshman Academy

Chapel Hill ISD is proud to introduce the new High School education model: The Academies of Chapel Hill.

In the fall of 2022 we will provide all students with a seamless transition from junior high to high school through Freshman Academy. 

About Freshman Academy

Freshman academy will expose students to enriching opportunities to foster academic and intellectual growth, and as a result, students will gain skills and confidence that will positively impact them in high school and beyond.

 

 

    • Freshman Seminar is to provide opportunities for career interest and exploration. The course will emphasize career readiness and personal/social development skills to help students decide which Academy they will choose for sophomore through senior year.
    • Freshman Seminar is a yearlong course that  introduces  a complete range of related career options to students, helps them discover their interests and passions, and empowers them to choose the educational pathway that can lead to success in high school, college and their chosen career.  Students will have a rigorous curriculum that focuses not only on career exploration but providing students with the skill set that employers are looking for.  The seminar will provide opportunities for career interest and exploration. Students will explore careers through College and Career Ready labs and work through modules of soft skills to prepare them for the workforce. This course will emphasize career readiness and engage students in authentic learning experiences to help students select a career path.
    • Freshman students will go on a college visit and career fair where they will learn about a large range of careers with businesses represented and experiential learning opportunities with industry-related field trips.
    • This course includes college and career readiness lessons in communication, ethics, personal presentation, attendance and punctuality, and quality and commitment. Additionally, skills through the Advanced Via Individual Determination (AVID) will be incorporated into to the course to ensure that students are organized, and enhance note taking skills.
